I have been to Rio several times. Twice I rented a sailboat at the
yacht
club and sailed the bay.
Once I rented with a captain :-( and sailed out of the bay to
a small city Notrh of Rio for a week
If I am staying in the city I enjoy staying at the Hotel
Gloria overlooking the bay. Lots of
good restaurants and a really nice atmosphere. The staff there are
wonderful.

I have not been able to find my good friend Carlos Mott the last
couple
of times that I have
visited. He has just disappeared. He used to be our agent there.
Carlos mentinoned
that he wanted to try hang gliding so of course I had to give it a
try too! We went up the
mountain in a VW Van and unloaded the gear and assembled the glider.
10 minutes instruction
was all it took and we were running down a ramp and off the face of
the mountain into the air.
I am a pilot but it took a good 10 minutes for my heart rate to get
anywhere close to normal.
We caught the updrafts and soared to the mountain top. I should have
worn my jacket as it was
damn cold there! After about an hour my teeth were chattering and we
decided to come down.
It took about 15 minutes to lose altitude and land on the beach. Cost
35.00!
There were a lot of people paragliding off the mountain too. Most of
the hang gliding was done
by flight attendents who were taking a break. You could hear them
screaming
as they got
airborne!! It was alot of fun just to hang around on the mountain and
watch eveyone taking off.
The air was full of bodies and wings. Quite an experience!
There is a video on Google of the same flight by
someone else ... Click
